The Teddy Bear Express
Back in 2011, Glen Rose resident Eva Hanke began collecting bears. That Christmas, nearly 300 bears were passed out by Santa Claus at the Christmas parade.
Every year since, there has been a “teddy bear float,” (the Santa Claus float,) and hundreds of bears have been passed out to children at the parade–earning Eva the fond nickname, “The Teddy Bear Lady.”
Teddy Bear Express Finds a New Home
Last year after the parade, Eva Hanke passed the teddy bear baton to Cornerstone Christian Fellowship Church, and we have taken up the cause. Something as easy as giving a child a stuffed animal is one of the simplest things we can do to show love to them.
Though the project first began as a teddy bear collection, over the years Eva expanded the collection to all sorts of stuffed animals, and we will continue to do the same. Any stuffed animal, new or gently used, can be donated for the Teddy Bear Express. Since we are a non-profit organization, donated teddy bears could be tax-deductible, too.
How Can You Donate Bears?
The church is open every Sunday from 8am-12:30pm. There will also be several collection dates between now and Christmas. To keep informed of collection dates and teddy bear updates, follow our page on Facebook. You can also message us there, or send us questions through our contact form here on the website.
